Groves Hospital Volunteer Association is represented by a self-governing Board.
The President of the Volunteer Association has a voting seat on the Groves Memorial Community Hospital Board of Directors.
As of our last AGM in June of 2025, we have an active Board of Directors made up of volunteers from the community of Centre Wellington. There are 12 elected directors and two directors representing the GMC Hospital who vote on any motions brought forward for a decision by the Board.
The Board has 4 executives, being the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, who can meet to deal with issues that arise outside of the regularly scheduled Board meetings. There are 7 standing committees of the Board and 2 ad hoc committees created to deal with immediate issues such as the new store construction.
The Directors meet once a month, either in person ( if weather allows) or virtually, to discuss, consider, and vote on decisions involving issues arising in the GHVA operations, both at New To You and with the volunteers at the Hospital.
Each director brings to the Board their own abilities, experience, and interests to assist in ensuring that any Board decision is being exposed in advance to a broad spectrum of opinions and comments.
Each year, there is usually at least one and sometimes as many as three new Directors needed to join the Board and we would welcome anyone interested in joining the Board putting their name and resume forward. Ads in the Wellington Advertiser and the local newspapers seeking applicants usually come out in April of each year if a new director is needed.
Any not-for-profit organization like ours is based not only on the enormous contributions of the volunteers doing the operational tasks but also on the contributions and work of the Board in giving direction to the organization’s efforts.
