Groves Memorial Community Hospital is nestled between the communities of Elora and Fergus at 131 Frederick Campbell Street, Fergus. The 152,000 square foot facility, opened in August 2020, backs onto the Elora Cataract Trailway and offers a modern, bright, healing environment. It is located behind the Wellington County Museum and kitty-corner to the Wellington Terrace Long-term Care Home.
The Groves Hospital Volunteer Association (GHVA) has been a proud supporter of Groves Memorial Community Hospital since 1933, helping enhance patient care and community health through volunteer service, fundraising, and local initiatives. GHVA volunteers power both our hospital programs and New to You Fergus, combining hands-on commitment with meaningful financial support. In 2016, the Groves Hospital Volunteer Association made a bold commitment: to raise $1 million in support of the new Groves Memorial Community Hospital within 10 years.
In 2026, we are proud to share that this pledge has been fulfilled.
With the final contribution presented during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 20, 2026, we have reached this financial milestone. This $1 million reflects a decade of dedication, generosity, and unwavering community spirit.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19, including 1.5 years of shutdowns that significantly impacted store operations, our community continued to show up. Through the efforts of our volunteers, the support of our donors, and the loyalty of customers and donors to New To You Fergus, we not only met our goal, we also honoured our promise.
This achievement positions GHVA as one of the largest non-governmental contributors to the hospital project, alongside the vital support of the Province of Ontario and Wellington County.
What was once a goal represented on a thermometer is now a lasting legacy of what community can accomplish together.
