Construction to Begin on New, Expanded New to You Fergus Store
New to You Fergus, the not-for-profit thrift store proudly supporting Groves Memorial Community Hospital, is thrilled to announce that construction is now underway on a brand-new, larger, and brighter store at 950 St. David Street North, Fergus.
After months of careful planning, technical review, and permit approvals, the organization’s construction plans are now fully approved, and the building permit is officially in place. While unusually cold weather and contractor scheduling commitments have pushed the original timeline slightly, construction is anticipated to begin the week of March 2.
“We are incredibly excited to share this milestone with our community,” says Donald Kidd, President of the Groves Hospital Volunteer Association (GHVA). “This new building represents our continued commitment to supporting Groves Memorial Community Hospital. Our volunteers and customers have made this expansion possible. We are so grateful for their loyalty and belief in our mission.”
A Bigger, Brighter Future
The new store will offer approximately double the space, allowing for:
Greater capacity to display and house merchandise
An improved shopping experience for customers
A new and enhanced donation drive-through area
A beautiful building filled with natural light
During construction, every effort will be made to keep the current store open so customers can continue shopping and donating without interruption. Parking will temporarily shift, and visitors are asked to follow updated signage.
Construction is estimated to take approximately one year, recognizing that timelines can shift due to weather and building conditions.
Growing Our Impact
This expansion is about more than space. It represents increased fundraising capacity to support Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
Formed in 1933, the Groves Hospital Volunteer Association has proudly supported Groves for 93 years. Over that time, GHVA has raised $4.3 million for the hospital, funding critical equipment, enhancements, and improvements that directly impact patient care within our community. That total includes a $1 million pledge launched in 2016, a 10-year commitment that will be fully completed in 2026.
As a not-for-profit thrift store operated by the Groves Hospital Volunteer Association, every purchase and donation directly contributes to continuing this legacy of care.
“Our goal has always been to serve this community by financially supporting our local hospital,” adds Kidd. “This new store allows us to increase our impact for years to come. It is an investment in both the hospital and the future of volunteerism in Centre Wellington.”
