About Us

New to You Fergus is a community-based thrift store operated by the Groves Hospital Volunteer Association (GHVA). Since 1933, GHVA has supported Groves Memorial Community Hospital by raising funds through retail operations and volunteer initiatives. For over 70 years, every purchase and donation at New to You Fergus has directly helped provide vital programs, services, and equipment to the hospital.

We are almost entirely volunteer-run, which means in this role you’ll be working alongside a team of dedicated volunteers who generously give their time and energy to support both the store and the hospital.

Our mission is to support Groves Hospital while offering quality second-hand goods at fair prices. We believe in community care, sustainability, and making a positive impact with every sale.

Part-time General Worker - $18/hour - 16 hours/week

New to You is seeking a motivated, organized Part-Time General Worker to join our team! This role offers $18/hour, with 16 hours per week. The schedule consists of shifts on Thursday and Saturday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with additional days for vacation and sickness coverage.

What You’ll Do

Donation Processing & Pre-Sort Duties

Receive and organize incoming donations.
Pre-sort donations while greeting and assisting donors.
Adhere to established waste management protocols.
Communicate with and direct volunteers working in the pre-sort area.
Assist with volunteer training and encourage confident decision-making among volunteers.
Recycle cashier packing materials from sorted donations whenever possible.

Store Operations & Safety

Perform building and parking lot safety walkarounds at 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and throughout the day as required depending on weather conditions.
Inspect both the north side (volunteer parking) and south side (customer/donor parking) and complete the required safety log after each inspection.
Lock and unlock storage trailers and other operational areas as required.

Front of Store Support

Assist cashiers with routine store operations as needed.
Oversee, assist with, and troubleshoot POS terminal issues when they arise.
Support the overall organization and flow of the retail environment.

General Operations

Participate in staff meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned by management to support daily operations.

Compensation & Hours

$18/hour
16 hours/week (Thursday and Saturday shifts of 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with additional days for vacation and sickness coverage.)
